Salt baths

"Salt bath" was a huge part of living with eczema, especially during flares. Although I knew I wasn't supposed to take it every day, during a bad flare, I did because it reduced the itchiness. It also helped my skin recover faster from the damage that I created from scratching my skin uncontrollably and kept me infection free.

Why does soaking in a salt bath help your skin?

Dead sea salt or Epsom salt is rich in magnesium and helps to detoxify the skin, reduce skin inflammation, restore the skin barrier, and improve skin hydration. More research is needed to identify how much of the magnesium is actually absorbed through the skin for therapeutic benefits.

☆my detox salt bath☆
2 cups *Epsom salt
1/2 cup baking soda
20 drops of lavender essential oil

*I used dead Sea salt throughout the beginning stages but my skin seems to like Epsom salt better so I made the switch. Everyone is different so test which works for you best.

**I prepare the water somewhat hot (but not too hot that you burn your skin). I soak for about 20-30 minutes. In Japan, soaking up to your hip is said to be most effective in detoxing the body because this way you focus on heating the blood vessels in the legs & nerves in the hip area that connect to the internal organs which in turn make you filter the toxins better. I find this method makes me sweat more than if I were to soak my entire body. So I soak only up to my hip until I start sweating and immerse my body up to my neck afterward.
